On the jigsaw, the parts in the upper part that hold the blade. What are the two things called that the blade slides into. Mine only has one. Should there be two? Where can I get one?

A little more clarification may be needed here. First which Shopsmith Jig Saw are we talking about? The first was made for the Shopsmith Model 10E and 10ER. It is different from the one made beginning in 1954. Below is a Model A-34 Jig Saw made for the Model 10's.

The one pictured above is the later version and differs from the first version in the Lower Frame casting.

The Jig Saw pictured below is the Model 610 and later changed the model's name to 505644.

In both cases I believe you are referring to the Upper Chuck. That is where the blade is clamped into and is part of the Spring Cylinder Assembly. Below is the Upper Chuck /Spring Cylinder Assembly from the Model A-34 Jig Saw on the left. On the right is the Lower Chuck. Sorry I don't have a picture of the Upper Chuck/Spring Cylinder Assembly for the Model 610/505633 Jig Saw.

Parts for either of the Shopsmith Jig Saw, like the Jig Saws themselves, have been discontinued. Shopsmith may have very few parts left for the Model 610/505644. You may have to contact Customer Service. The used market is the only source for most parts.

Parts are not interchangeable between the Model A-34 Jig Saw made for the Model 10's and the Model 610/505644 made primarily for the Mark series tools.

If you can post pictures of what you have and a close up of the part area you are referring to that would be helpful.

youngstev,

The Upper and Lower Chuck picture I showed in my last post is the one from the Model A-34 Jig Saw and as you can see, they are different.

Below is a picture of the Upper Chuck from a Model 620 Greenie Jig Saw.

The Upper Chuck collar on yours is missing the screws and goes over the holes in the end of the square tube. I believe the other picture you posted shows one of the two jaws that go inside the end of the square tube, but I don't have a size reference to compare it to. The jaws are held in place in the inside end of the square tube and the screws on either side of the Upper Chuck collar hold it in place plus lock the jaws against the blade.

The slotted head screw is a 6-40 x 5/16" Round Head Screw. The other screw is a 10-32 x 3/8" Socket Cap Screw. The screw information is from an early Shopsmith Inc. diagram and parts list from the 1970's. I would have to check if those screw sizes changed later but I doubt it.

Only the Socket Cap Screw is used to lock the blade in the Upper Chuck. The Slotted Round Head Screw should always be kept tight.

None of those Upper Chuck parts are available from Shopsmith any longer so parts will have to be found used.

Thanks. Do you think it would work with only one jaw and with a cap screw? Is eBay the best place to look for the jaw or whatever I can find?
