Looks like the lathe duplicator is no longer being sold... And I haven't seen one on eBay in a while... Any tips on where to find one, or another similar duplicator that works with the shopsmith? I mostly make baseball bats, and want to be able to copy some .

Dmd003,

As you have noticed they don't come up for sale very often. When you do find one, know what comes with a complete Lathe Duplicator. The link below is to the Manual & Information page here on the Shopsmith website. You can download a PDF of the manual from there. The manual has the parts list and exploded view of the more recent version. There was an accessory Steady Rest that was available for the Duplicator. A PDF of the instructions for it can be downloaded from the link below too.

https://www.shopsmith.com/manuals-information

There have been two versions of the Shopsmith Lathe Duplicator. The early Lathe Duplicator has a “C” channel that holds the item/pattern to be duplicated and the shield plus related hardware. It has the same finish as the other metal parts. A second “C” channel is used for the Steady Rest. The later Lathe Duplicator has an aluminum double sided “T” track channel for the item/pattern to be duplicated and the shield plus related hardware including “T” nuts. A second aluminum double sided “T” track channel is used for the Steady Rest. Other parts appear to be the same.

It will be helpful to get the "followers" that match the cutters used on the Tool Rest Assembly.

The Shopsmith Lathe Duplicator uses Easy Wood Tools Cutters and from other sources.

SS Part Number / Description / Easy Wood Tools Part Number
555211 / Triangle / unknown
555212 & 523022 / Square Rougher / Ci2-SQ
555210 & 523023 / Round Finishing / Ci3
555213 & 523024 / Diamond / Ci4
523034 / Radius / Ci2-R2
555278 / 1/2-inch Cone Cutter / unknown source

Below is a picture of the older Lathe Duplicator with the Steady Rest. Sorry I don't have a picture of the newer one and the manual only shows drawings of it.

A, B & C in the above picture is the regular Lathe parts, the Drive, Live Center with extension and Tailstock. D is the optional Steady Rest.

I don't know if there are any other Lathe Duplicator made that will fit the Shopsmith.

The Shopsmith Lathe Duplicator is limited to 34" max. for spindles the same as the Mark V or 7.

There was one advertised on Facebook around Albany NY recently. I don't do Facebook, I assume it's gone now because it was quite a deal, $100 for a Mark 5 and duplicator together. Don't know if this link to My Growth Rings will work for you: https://www.mygrowthrings.com/products/ ... 691f735f48

Thanks for the great, helpful responses. Seems like a few years ago there was always one in sale... Now very rarely.

I'm in Raleigh. Let me know if you change your mind about shipping... Or if you list it on eBay.

I was thinking about making one after seeing this online: https://www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/lathe-duplicator/ since I can't find a SS one anywhere.

Thanks for sharing that Link.
I will check that out.
I had researched the subject for a little while.

I was preparing to make one also and may still make one in the future.
Then, After a trip to a bordering state I acquired one from a New SS friend of mine. :)

I had planned to make the rails out of 80/20 Extruded Aluminum.

Here is a link to a company that offers free software to design it.
They have u-Tube video's on how to use the software.

I want to get the one I have set-up and use it before ( I ) go Re-inventing the Wheel. :D
