Hi
Thinking of ordering a S/S and I would need to move it into the cellar from my garage, having to move it up 4 stairs and then make a 90 turn into the cellar. What is the weight and the length? This would have to be a one man job.

HighLonesomef5,

Welcome t the Shopsmith Forum.

If you are buying a new Mark V 520S or 7 from Shopsmith it comes in a crate with the legs unattached. With that in your garage you can move parts separately and assemble it in the cellar. Even though the Main Table and Extension are on the Bench Frame they are easily removed to lighten the weight for moving that largest part. If desired, you can remove the Headstock from the Way Tubes and make all parts manageable for moving up 4 stairs. There will be additional unattached parts packed in the crate. Once moved section by section in can be assembled in your cellar. The crate will weigh somewhere around 200 pounds. The Mark 7 weighs a bit more than the Mark V 520S.

The headstock is the heaviest part. Reports vary though. Typical weight cited for a PowerPro headstock is around 70 lbs. The conventional headstock weighs closer to 50 lbs. Some reports of lighter weights are contrary to my past experience lifting and carrying them. That's something my sons do for me now.
