Hello I’m new here to the forum. So far I have seen some great info. I was recently given a Mark V model 500 with a serial number dated at 1980 according to ShopSmith. It needs a bit of an overhaul so I began by disassembling, cleaning, priming and painting the whole base and carriage assembly. After reassembly I realized that I somehow have a leftover part. LOL. I have checked exploded parts diagrams and photos but can not seem to figure out where it belongs. There may be a chance it came from somewhere else other than the Base or Carriage and somehow made its way into my parts bins? It is a small round cylinder that seems to slide over a shaft of some kind. I’ll attach a photo (the penny is for size reference). Any help identifying my “extra part” would be seriously appreciated!!!

JPG is asking what the inside diameter (ID) of the part is. I cannot identify it so far. If it doesn't have a set screw it must be a collar or spacer from something. If the inside diameter is 1/2" it could be a rub collar for a Shaper Adapter/Spindle but does look a bit tall for that. Below is an early Shaper Adapter from the 1950's with one of the collars on it.

Do you have any other Shopsmith Tools or accessories that it could go to? It is possible it is a random part that ended up with the Shopsmith.

The approximate measurements are:
ID: 1/2"
OD: 13/16"
Height: 9/16"
There is no set screw and the inside is not threaded.

I was also thinking it was a spacer of some kind. I do have some other Shopsmith accessories but I have not even looked through those boxes yet. I have the band saw in addition to some other pieces. So far the only thing I have disassembled was the base and carriage and I removed the headstock from the way tubes.So I am not sure how it would have made its way in with the parts that I cleaned so far. Crazier things have happened but I thought I was pretty careful about putting the parts I removed into separate containers.

I don't recall the height of the Shaper Collars, but the smallest is listed as 25/32" OD. I would have to go out to the shop and measure the height. The Shaper Collars come in a set of 4 as shown below.

UPDATE: I went out to the shops and measured a Shaper Collar Set. They are each 3/8" tall. Still not sure what your Collar/Spacer is.

I recently purchased a Mark 7, I want to replace this part, not sure what it is called. It holds the fence angle for the jointer?

The part is the Jointer Quadrant Assembly which is part number 502651 and is available here on the Shopsmith website at the link below.

It is the same part used on all Magna/Shopsmith 4" Jointer Models going back to their introduction in 1953. A few years ago, I replaced the Jointer Quadrant Assembly on my 1953 Model 4E Jointer with the current one.

Your picture show one of the two common failures that occur with the Jointer Quadrant Assembly. Overtightening the Fence Locks strips out the threads. The other common problem is on the back side of the assembly that slides over the Fence Bar and ends up being spread out. Also caused by over tightening the Fence Lock.
