They are used to clamp the Mark mount 12" planer to the way tubes.

Interesting - The machine came with the stand alone 12" planer. Any other additional uses possible?

Those brackets (Of course) without the short bolt with speed nut and SS wing Nut. ;) are used on a Duplicator also.

Also used with the speed reducer, but it only requires one.

Your stand alone planer was probably a MK mount planer originally. SS sold a stand with a motor to put the MK mount planer on. The MK mount planer has an aluminum table with a stainless steel skin on top. The planer SS sold as stand alone has a cast iron table. Also the label on the infeed shroud is different. The MK mount planer says "Shopsmith12" Planer". The stand alone planer label says "12" Professional Planer".

Thanks for that explanation - my planer has ss covered Al tables, although there is no label on the infeed side. So mystery solved thanks again.

Now if I could only find a speed reducer for larger drill bits I could put one of those clamps to go use!

Yes, a single one is used to secure the Speed Increaser and Speed Reducer to the Way Tubes. A Speed Reducer attached to a Mark V is shown below.
