Is there any advantage to having four Shopsmith Adjustable Stop Collars?

Do you have four Shopsmiths?

No, I have three.

To rephrase the question: Are there things I can do better with four than I can with two?

I considered getting one for the main table and one for the extension table. With four, I could put one on the front and one on the back of each. Seems that I remember some one here posting that they used four.

Do you think you need one on each leg of a table? One and a level ought to work as well. I got two because I have multiple machines and I can use one for height adjustment on the customized table system for my drill press.

Don't recall a mention of four adjustable stop collars but much discussion of them and regular stop collars in this thread: viewtopic.php?t=11298

There was recent discussion of the use of four regular stop collars in this thread: (viewtopic.php?p=312565#p312565)

I found the post I remembered and read between the lines. He was using for standard sop collars.

So what, if any, advantage is there to using two adjustable stop collars?

Shopsmth has these on sale as a pair.

Here is what it says on the Shopsmith page:

Double-up your Stop Collar order for unparalleled convenience.

Order an extra Shopsmith Stop Collar and Scale and you'll be making table adjustments faster than you may ever have imagined!

Put the extra collar on the opposite side of your carriage and you'll have TWO quick, precise adjustments at the ready.

Put it on your fixed Extension Table Post and you'll be ready to raise and lower your main worktable and extension table in unison.

I'm not ready to argue for two but I have two and use them regularly. One on the extension table and one on the main table. Don't use the Sjopsmith a lot these days but they were useful when I made saw dust every day.

Robert,

Hopefully the posts Ed and David linked will give you some things to think about and guide you to what will work best for you. Like you, I have more than one Shopsmith, but I don't have separate Adjustable Collars for each one of the Marks. I have two mainly for use on my primary tool, the Mark 7. If I was doing a big project, I might use more than one Shopsmith at a time having different setups on each. That would be a time for me to consider the use of additional collars both adjustable and fixed. Fixed ones for the smaller diameter table posts of the Model 10's.

I may have a third Adjustable Collar that would have come with the Crafter's Station I bought a few months ago. The Crafter's Station is an excellent example of a place to use the Adjustable Collar since the "Carriage" on it doesn't have the raising/lowering gears for the Table Height. It clamps the post in place as seen below.

I'm not sure how much help this is. You can't use the lower collar unless you move the upper one out of it's position. You could set up two different table heights ahead of time, use the upper one first, move it down then use the lower one right away to save a little time. But then you have to reposition the upper one to use it at the same height again. If you have the lower one at a very commonly used height a second collar on the same table for other settings could be useful. I don't see the need for that for my use, but it might help someone.
