I have come into possession of ShopSmith Model ER, SN# R48364. It was purchased I believe around 1955. It has not been used or maintained in decades, but it is intact and includes a number of accessories, plus original owners instructions and reference book. I would gladly give it to a ShopSmith enthusiast, provided that person could pick it up. I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Could anyone here point me to where I might find people in my area who might want it? I ca be contacted at ed.wells@gmail.com .

Would you mind if I linked this to the Facebook group that’s devoted to 10ER enthusiasts?

I do a pretty good job of re-homing old Shopsmiths, but I’m a few too many miles away… :D

Welcome to the forum.

This is such a Great Gesture you are doing.

jpdalton stated as I am going to also.

I am too far away (Only 32 hours one way) :)

I will post to bring this to the top again.

Hopefully this group of Fine people can get in contact with someone close to you that will put this machine in use again. :)

EW1950,

Your Shopsmith Model 10ER, serial number R48364 was made in late 1950 or early 1951 in the Western (bay area) Plant. Although the Logo/Serial Number Plate says Model ER it is actually a Model 10ER.

There is more than one type of Shopsmith enthusiasts. The first want to use these tools while some like myself also enjoy restoring them too. Others buy Shopsmith tools to sell the parts.

Sorry I am not much help in your actual question, but I live over 600 miles away and I already have 3 Model 10's, 2 Mark 5's and a Mark 2 to restore plus many SPT's.

I do hope you are able to find your Model 10ER a new home.

Thank you all for the encouraging replies. I wish you all were closer to the SF area. This ShopSmith will have to find a new home in the next month or so.

Mr Dalton, please feel free to post to the Facebook group. I am not on Facebook but would welcome direct replies to my email ( ed.wells@gmail.com ) or via this forum, which I'll check every day or two.

This ShopSmith has spent the last several decades in a garage that must be cleared out by the end of March. If you hear of any interest, please let me know or put me in contact with the person. Thank you.

That’s such good news to hear! I appreciate your recognition - good to know that I may have helped in a small way to find one of these a new home… without bringing it back to my own garage!! :D
