He was a true genius with wood. Oh to be as productive as he was at his age. If you would want to see a 13 part video series with Sam showing how he does band sawing and talking about his life, click here.

Our wood working club here in the Tampa Bay area holds a Fine Woodwork exhibition each year at the State Fair. Back in the 80's we would get guest judges in to judge the work a few days beofre the fair opened and then to have a sit down question and answer reception with the judge after the judging. This was open to exhibitors and members and was a highlight of the our wood working year. One year at least and possibly two Sam Maloof was the judge. I remember watching him judge the various pieces giving comments, asking questions of the builder and making suggestions on how to better to do it. It was fascinating to see what he looked at and where he focused his inspection. Even more fascinating was the question and answer time. Many times his answer took a bunny trail where he would tell us of his early wood working experinces and how he learned techniques.

Truly a master and his death is a great loss to the woodworking community.

One of my favorite DVD's is a PBS video "Craft In America" Sam as well as others is in the video. Worth the asking price and more. I can't keep from viewing it.
