mystery pieces for Model 510

Post by StoneyD »

Recently got my first Shopsmith Mark V and using the documents that came with I have been able to identify all the miscellaneous bits and pieces that came with it in a box. Except for these two plastic pieces. The SPTs that came with it are a bandsaw, jointer, and biscuit cutter. If they are not for a Shopsmith, my apologies, but since the previous owner seems to have taken very good care of this machine, I would like to make certain that each piece is used as it should be. (Thanks to those who let me know how to properly attach pictures. Although the file size was within parameters, there seems to be a limit on pixel width and height)

A picture would help. See the Community forum, the second topic discusses how to post a picture. Do pay attention to the maximum size.

Thanks for the heads up I have now edited and attached a photo, probably should have included a ruler for size comparisons though.

They actually are parts for a Mark V 500 Saw Blade Guard Set. Not intended for use on a Model 510.

The picture below should help. They go to the Mark V 500 Saw Blade Guard set shown below.

The Drawing from the Manual shows how they are placed on the Table Tie Bar.

Thanks Russ, that explains why they were never used by the previous owner, he apparently bought an upgraded saw blade guard.

Interesting that the 500 guards (part # 505875) I bought in 2011 didn't have those (items 7 and 8). The instructions mention the thumbscrews (item 6) and said that they were replaced with button head socket screws. The main literature is dated 2/88 with an update about the thumbscrews dated 5/92.

MikeG,

The Front and Rear Shields plus the screws (items 7 & 8) were only included with the original Lower Saw blade Guard (from the 1980's) that had the single 1-1/2" Dust port. When the Lower Saw Guard was changed in 1988 to have two 2-1/2" Dust Ports those Shields that attach to either side of the Table Tie Bar were no longer included. The Drawing below shows the Upgrade parts with those still used from the original Lower Saw Blade Guard.

Yes, the thumbscrews (item G above) were replaced with button head socket screws.
