great grandfathers part replacement (hopefully)

Post by lugnutz78 »

welp i have decided to get a box checked on my sob story. and started doing a little research....... and by starting i mean 20min ago.

about 30yrs ago, my great grandfathers shop smith went to my dad, about 20yrs ago it came to me. it has been in climate controlled storage the entire time (for extra emotional affect LOL). i finally bought my first house, and then finally got a shop built. after being moved a few times from OH-AL-TX, the final move ended up taking a fatality.
I am not ready to start refurb on the whole thing, but i am hoping to locate a part and at least have it on hand. one less thing to deal with while i research the shop smith as a whole.

so, if can figure out how to attach images, i am hoping someone might be able to help me locate replacement? EBAY does have a few whole table assemblies but i am hoping to locate just adjustment part in question.

TIA for any help!

That might be the front trunnion for the main table. The Shopsmith site lists it as unavailable. I have one I can give you.

I sent you a Private Message so you can contact me.

The broken part is actually the Trunnion for the Jig Saw Table as seen on the 1957 Greenie Jig Saw in the picture below. Any Jig Saw Table Trunnion will work as a replacement. Doing an eBay search I only found a couple of them both with the table. Since the Jig Saw was discontinued in the late 1980's, new replacement parts are no longer available from Shopsmith.

By the way that's an old Mark 5 made in July 1954. I'm guessing the Jig Saw was from that era also since it is painted in the greenie colors.

I think Russ is correct. I don't have a replacement for a jigsaw table. Jigsaws show up on Craig's List occasionally so maybe you'll find one. Finding individual parts is unlikely so you'd need to find a whole unit. And you might need more parts than that anyway so if you can find one at decent price it would be worth getting. I think I paid $150 for one, they seem to sell for $100-$200, but it depends on what's available locally.
