Hi,

I'm looking for a repair location in Southern California that can repair a Shopsmith Mark V headstock.

If you have a shop or know of one, please let me know.

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

I am not aware of anyone who currently works on Shopsmith Headstocks for others. It can be sent back to the factory for work. Contact Shopsmith if you decide to go that route. The other option is to work on it yourself. It does seem like a daunting task, but it is really not to difficult to do yourself. If you want to tackle that yourself, we can help and replacement parts are available. The first step would be to describe the problem and adding pictures does help. We can go from there. It may be as simple as needing some maintenance and lubrication.

Shipping the unit back to the factory doesn't seem to be the best route to go on. That's a $550 bill to get it to them. After that and a refurb, I might as well buy a new unit. At the end of the day, there should be certified mechanics available... Geeze....

Sorta like seeking a Wankel motor mechanic.

While most repair centers that I know of have closed, I believe that "505shopsmithrepair" (aka Alex's Shopsmith Repair Shop) is still in operation. They are not in SoCal either, but I would guess that shipping and handling are significantly lower than $550. This is not to be confused with an endorsement of any kind, I have never done any business with him.
