Shaper Fence Manual Needed

Hi, I just acquired a newer shaper fence. I need the manual. It is missing the screws & nuts that secure the fence to the 520 table and the screws & nuts that secure the wood fence to the metal. I'm hoping the manual can help me with this. Thank you in advance.

I'm sorry to say I cannot find a printed or PDF copy of the manual in my library. In the picture below of the Fence Kit near the bottom center is the hardware used to attach the Fence to the Main Table. It includes the 2 long Cap Screws, 2 Washers and 2 Square Nuts. The short Cap Screws are for attaching the dust collection to the bottom of the Table Insert. The Fence Boards are attached with flat head screws and nuts to the fence. I would have to go out to the shop to get actual hardware sizes.

I went out to the shop to measure them.

The Cap Screws for attaching the Fence to the Main Table are 3/8" NC by 1-3/4" long (not including the Head), washers and square nuts to match

For my Fence the screws to attach the Boards to the Fence use a Hex Head screw 1/4" NC by 1" long, a washer and square nut which the screw and washer sit in a recessed hole. If the Boards are drilled and counter sunk for flat head screws use them with the same screw and nut size.

I have a model 555140 Router / Shaper Guard Retrofit kit which looks like the image you provided. I have scanned and attached page 3 of the little one sheet instructions. Interestingly, I bought it ~40 years ago and never used it. In fact, I just opened the box to get the instruction sheet out of it

BTW - I'm assuming it's okay to scan and post this page from the instructions?

The parts list and diagram are for the other items that come in the kit. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the Shaper Fence parts list and diagram.

I hope with the sizes I listed in my last post you will be able to find the needed hardware locally for your Shaper Fence.

Since this topic is about the Shaper Fence, I add this information for anyone else wondering about the Shaper Fences. There have been three others made over the years besides the one shown in my earlier post here.

The first is from the Model 10E and 10ER which were made from 1947 through 1953. It was called the Jointer/Shaper Fence. It goes in place of the Table Insert as seen in the picture below. Most came with a metal fence although I have seen a very few with wood fences.

In 1953 the Shaper Fence for the Mark 5 with the original Table System AKA Mark V 500 came out. It was introduced prior to the introduction of the Mark 5 in March of 1954. It can also be used on the Model 10's as demonstrated in the picture of it below. The original instructions dated 8-53 showed it in use on a Model 10ER.

When the Mark VII came out in the 1960's there was a Shaper Fence made specifically for it. The Mark VII had a larger (front to back) Table then the Mark 5 so the Shaper Fence for the Mark 5 would not fit. That Shaper Fence more closely resembles the current one made for the Table System of the Mark V 510/505, 520 and current Mark 7. Although similar they are not interchangeable without adding new mounting holes to the Main Tables.

I will keep looking to see if I can find the instructions for the Shaper Fence for the Mark V 510/505, 520 and current Mark 7 and post it here.

When I use Mark V 510/505, 520 and current Mark 7 it refers to all the Mark models that use the same size Tables which includes the Mark V 510/505, Mark V 520, Mark V 520S, Mark 7, Mark 4 and the current Mark 5 (the same as the Mark V 520S) which is available for a limited time. So many Mark Models it is easy to get confused.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the detailed information. I have the fence style shown in the 1981 shaper fence instruction PDF you provided (for my Mark V 500).

I've just never used the shaper, but now that I've opened the box for the kit, I can certainly use the finger board -- that's assuming it hasn't gotten brittle over the last 40 years.

I haven't found a specific manual for the Shaper Fence, but I have found a Parts Diagram and List in a Shaping and Drum Sanding Guide. The two pages are in the PDFs below. Fence Assembly Model 510 is the one for the models with the larger Table System like the 520 and Mark 7 too. The Parts List do not give sizes for the Hardware so refer to the sizes I gave in my previous post.

I be curious how the hardware clerk reacted when you mentioned "1/4 NC" screw.

At least it wasn't a 1/4" NF screw which is a bit less commonly used.
