I went to an auction Thursday and saw a Pro Planer in nice shape for 700.00. I was going to call today to make an offer if it hasn't sold. Can someone give me an idea what that offer should be? Thanks in advance.....BB

The Pro Planer sells new for about $1400.00 so $700.00 looks to be a fairly good price IF the planer is in very good condition.

The planer is a devise that I do not believe can be properly evaluated without using it. There are posts that support the upper unit and if they are bent you might be looking at significant expense. The feed rollers on newer units have been upgraded. If this unit has the older rollers, you might be looking at a built in expense there. What condition are the blades in. Are they old enough that they cannot be resharpened. Do you have the capacity to resharpen them without an addition expense.

I've had mine for nearly fifteen years and I love it. It performs well and maintenance is minimal so long as you don't do anything "not smart".

Surface planing something with a large secure knot is "not smart". In my case, it resulted in new blades.:o:o That was many years ago and since then all has gone well.

How badly do you want a ProPlaner and will the bank account handle the debit during these hard times.

I just called them to make an offer and it did sell for 700.00. I was able to get a drum sander, 30 sanding drums, a shaper fence and some arbors for a grand total of 15.00 so I didn't do too bad.

Wow! that guy did well at $700. I purchased my ProPlaner new in the early 90's for $849.

One was on sale this weekend on Craigs List for $375.

Another for $250 If I remember right.
