Hi everyone. Over a week ago I talked about a Greeny that I was looking at buying to restore. Well I got it and it is in great shape and worth redoing. I have stripped off the old paint on the base so far and primed. Tubes cleaned up very well. I started today going in the power head to see how it looked. By the way, Motor was updated and has the poly vee belt.Quill unknown. I found a washer laying in the bottom motor pan. Its about 3/16 in thick. 1 3/8 in dia. with a 7/8 in hole. It's not a normal flat washer. It is beveled on one side. The motor and speed control seem to fuction OK. I can't see how it could of gotten in there unless it was left in there from a repair.Is it possible that it is a arbor washer?I haven't had time yet to take it down any further.Will be going that here soon . I planned on cutting the access hole in it also.Any ideas?

Check the Quill Advance Assembly(QAA). I place this washer over the Advance assembly by holding it on a magnetic pickup tool inserted through the small headstock hole. After the QAA is placed in the headstock, the end of the shaft is moved towards the exit, the washer is put on the end of the shaft and pickup tool slid off the washer. Use the inspection hole to put the washer on the magnetic pickup tool. The bushing is placed in the headstock hole and turned to align with the key in the shaft.

The flat side of the washer is to the back of the headstock, The tapered side is to the front. The washer is placed in the space between the quill support casting, and the inside front.

The magnetic pickup tool allows you to move the washer around without it ending up in the bottom of the motor pan, like this one.

The bushing may only slide in over the shaft one way. If it doesn't slide over the shaft, turn the bushing end for end.

Thanks for all who replied to my question. "But" It still didn't solve my question. This washer that I found in the bottom of this greenie that I'm redoing has a inside diameter hole that is much larger then the quill feed shaft. It will even slip over the shaft with the key in the slot. It is also to thick to fit as you have mentioned between the quill feed sleeve and the casting knobs.I have compared the parts to a 500 parts list and if that is correct I am missing some parts. Does anyone have a Greenie parts list that I could compare to my parts? I'm not sure if those part numbers are still good anymore. Will the 500 washers and snap rings fit?

The quill feed sleeve should not go through the washer. There was a few different types of washers used over the years with different IDs but they all allows the quill feed sleeve push againest the washer which puts pressure on the housing casting knob (ear) to lock the quill housing. The raised/domed part of the washer goes againest the sleeve. I have found many parts, items and tools when removing the motor pan as it appears it is easier to leave what ever fell and get another tool/part/item to replace the dropped one. No fingers or rings have been found yet.

I find I can use the latest Mark V parts in any of the early Greenie headstocks with only a very few exceptions like the speed dial spring and the motor floating sheave. Of course, you can not mix Gilmer and Poly-V parts but can do complete swaps.

The washer looks more like it is a blade washer of some type. I will go by the parts break down for the 500 and go from there. Everything appears to be in pretty good shape. It has the larger motor and poly belt setup. Only thing that it maybe could use is the double bearing quill assy.My plan as of now is to use the Greenie to power some of my SPT's and the 520 for the rest so Im not sure how important the double bearing quill is for the SPT's. Do you know what size bearings are on the Drive sleeve assy? One may have a little wear.Also are the decals available after I repaint it ?
