Dave, I remember seeing those demonstrated at a Home & Garden show. If I remember correctly, it was manufactured by a high-end German tool co. I keep wanting to say Zeiss, but I know that's not it, they're an optics company.

anyone own this multifunction vise or know what it is called? I remember seeing it advertised in an infomercial years ago. I recently got this for free but it has no paperwork/ instructions.

You will find this vise (Zyliss) at ADVANCED MACHINERY. I use several of these vises and they are great. They are a bit on the pricey side even in the used state, so you were lucky to get if for free. They were made by the Swiss for several years, probably China now.

I have one and I absolutely love it. It gets grossly over worked even though I have other vises.

I bought this when I was living on the road in a fifth wheel. I needed something reliable and at the same time reliable. It is very versatile and is definitely reliable. Mine must be at least fifteen years old and while it shows its age it is still functional.

Thanks for the picture. Now I have a chance of repacking mine it the briefcase mine came in.

I mentioned having one of these in a post recently but at the time I could not recall the name. I have it on the left end of my bench and my old mostly homemade wood vise on the right end. It is a little like a Shopsmith in that it is quite flexible but it does have a bit of a learning curve (read as change of work habits) to get used to using it.
I bought mine second hand but unused "somewhere" a number of years ago. I had seen the demos but didn't buy due to the $$$$.
I have a shop full of stuff that I bought second hand but unused from guys with more money to spend than I had.
Sadly many of those items are still unused...
That vise though I do use from time to time.

Yours looks exactly like mine but the name (Zyliss) is embossed into two pieces of mine. The other parts are unmarked. The two pieces with the name are the two sets of mounting jaws that attach to a work bench.
