Has anybody used the new Barracuda4 chuck on the Shopsmith? I've found a good deal on them, but can't find an adapter for it's 1-1/2" 8tpi spindle. Would it be possible to stack adapters, i.e.; Shopsmith 5/8" to 1" 8tpi spindle adapter attached to a 1" 8tpi to 1-1/2" 8 tpi spindle adapter attached to the chuck?

Check out the Thread "Drilling Pen Blanks" in Beginning Woodworking. Tom has a "Barracuda 2" Don't know the difference between a #2 & #4.

Check out PSI

Penn State Industries sells the shopsmith adapter. Just search their website for the word shopsmith and it will come up.

Penn State sells only the 1" 8tpi adapter. I believe the Barracuda4 takes a 1-1/2" spindle, hence the need for a second adapter.

Looking through the psi site, the barracuda and barracuda 4 both have 1½-8 spindles. The shopsmith adapter to 5/8" is only listed for barracuda 2 and is 1-8. I conclude you need both a L5818(ss) and a LABAR418.

P.S. Although you are stacking them, the LABAR will NOT extend the chuck out from the headstock by very much(1-8 is internal thread, 1½-8 is external thread).

For the record, my original Barracuda chuck (CS2000C) has a 1"-8TPI bore adapter premounted and comes with an adapter for 3/4". BTW, I really like my Barracuda chuck.

I believe you need this in addition to the Shopsmith adapter 5/8 to 18tpi
