Since I have posted the last couple of weeks, I thought I may as well go back to a weekly blog.

This week saw slow but steady progress on the pieces for the garden swing. As usual, I have made my share of "boobs". Also as usual, it was because of inattention! The first problem occurred while ripping the wider seat slats. After doing a couple, I noticed that the trailing end seem narrower than the leading end. That wasn't good, so I checked my fence and sure enough it was out of alignment. I should have known because a few weeks ago when I was making the tomato cages I noticed the same thing but ignored it as it was not important at the time. After realignment, everything was back to normal, or at least it should have been. When ripping the narrower seat slats, I noticed they were getting wider as I went along. Upon investigating the problem, I found I had not locked the headstock. I don't even remember unlocking it, but hey, we all know what that problem is. This was not a major issue as all I had to do was lock the headstock, reset the fence, and re-rip. However, my final piece was too narrow and I lost one slat on the first board. Eventually they all got done.

Much of the time was spent painting. Because of space limitations, I can only do so many pieces at a time. I'm putting two coats on each piece, one coat on two sides in the morning and one coat on the other two late in the day, so each set takes two days to paint. I am amost ready to start putting it all together, and that wil be the test.

The weather forecast was for some rain every day the past week, so I couldn't do any work on the benches at the seniors residence. This week is shaping up much the same.

Vacation in Vermont is coming up in just under two weeks, so I must start looking at what may be on sale at ShopSmith and Rockler. Then I can have it delivered to the cottage and save on shipping and customs duties. Of course whatever I order has to be in stock as I only have a three week window to take delivery. The current SS sale ends July 17th and we don't get in the cottage until the 18th, but I may consider the cross cut sled and arrange for delivery after the 18th.

That old inattention will get you every time. Sometimes I am thinking about one job and working on another. Results,,,,, not to good. Enjoy your vacation and your new toys.

Don't delay the delivery! Call Customer Service to place the order and communicate. If an item is going to go on back order, they'll tell you and you can then cancel.

If the items are in stock, they'll work the order and make sure it is in process so as to arrive before the window closes.

I may have been guilty of inattention in the past but I'm not sure. I wasn't watching.

John it sure is sad that you have to go to Vermont to get the special and delivery, it would be nice if they would send direct to us in Canada and give us the special also. I didn't know that there was another Shopsmith owner so close to me, I thought I was the only one. We should get together and compare wood notes.

It is unfortunate you must become a bootlegger to take advantage of the 'specials'!;)

Yeah, not fair that we have to become bootleggers to get a deal, hey wait a minute, as Canadians we have been doing that for a while. I seem to remember in our joint history another time when bootlegging was going on, and we survived that. I'll have another one Harry.......................

Your comment is similar to one on a plaque that my dear wife purchased for me on our recent anniversary trip to Vt. it reads: " my wife says I never listen to her. (at least I think that's what she said)". It is now hanging by our front entrance. I think she's trying to tell me something.

Good to know there is another owner nearby. A couple of years ago I posted asking if there were any local owners here or in upstate Vt. and NY but got no replies. There is another chap from Montreal that posted for a while but I haven't seen any recently (can't recall his name). I agree, we should try to get in contact and maybe get a coffee or something at "Tim's" after our vacation.

I make it very clear when I order from the cottage that the item has to be in stock, and that the address expires at a certain date. So far I have been lucky and only had two items not available over the past two summers.
