520 fence - missing/damaged parts

Post by enyoc »

Forum: the fence on my 520 is missing a pad and a plastic piece is broken - Neither piece shows up in the exploded view - does anyone know the part numbers? Any thoughts on me just making replacement pieces out of some corian or white oak or phenolic?

Thanks!

520 fence - missing/damaged parts

Shopsmith sells the plastic part. It is used with the scales on the Pro fence. I would hope the pads are available too. If you could let us know what you find out from Shopsmith and any part numbers would be nice.

it looks like the pads are:
518404 Front Pad - regular price $1.27/ea currently on sale at $1.02/ea
listed as Ref # 220 (not shown) on the 520 pro fence parts breakdown.
it does not say if they are self-adhesive and no adhesive is specified.

the breakdown does not show the plastic piece that Bill identified as associated with the scale system. if it's only purpose is to provide the pointer for the scale, then drilling a very small hole at the crack tip (to stop the crack spreading) and then a bit of glue or epoxy might be all you need. of course, it's probably cheap enough that you may consider it easier to just order a new one and use the cracked one until it breaks or affects the measurement.
