Have owned my V for may years, but due to circumstances it has been stored for the past 9.

Now when I use it it has a terrible squeal noise similar to dry bearings. Is this in fact what I am experiencing? Is there a guide as to where to lubricate and perhaps what to use?

Thanks in advance for any pointers, I do appreciate it and look forward to getting back into using my baby once again.

Welcome to the forum. It sound like a belt to me but lets let some of the resident experts weight in.

Very glad the have you join.

Had the same problem on my father's greenie.
Turned out to be the thrust bearing on the back of the Control Sheave.

Even Nick warned that there is no real way to lubricate this bearing other than to have it "wick" oil from luricating the shaft.

When a Shopsmith has been stored for 2 or more years, I recommend a complete disassembly to check all bearings, belts, sheaves, motor and Speed Control Assembly. I find that you can do additional damage by trying to operate the headstock after it has been setting for long periods of time.

There are Sawdust Sessions and manuals, procedures and instructions on-line to help you plus asking questions on this forum. There are several sites that rebuild headstocks if interested plus DVDs and Videos can be ordered that covers repairs and rebuilding of the headstock. I recommend using Zoom Sprout Turbine Oil for the lubrication.
