Mark V quill
Bought a second Mark V and the quill will only extend about an inch. I think the teeth in the shaft and gear are gummed up. I've removed the back cover of the headstock and that doesn't really give me access to the quill internally.
Access it through the rear of the headstock. Use a brass brush to clean the quill teeth and the rack teeth. Look here at about 12 minutes in or session #22.

To really see/access the quill 'gears, drop the motor/pan(5 screws), disconnect the switch wires(note which wire goes where) and tilt the ss to vertical and 'all will be revealed to you'. Be careful, the motor/pan be heavy.
The quill feed may be binding(BTW the quill stop isn't set to about 1" is it?).
P.S. this forum does not work like a phone call or instant messaging. Expect some delay for responses!
