Looking at a shopsmith model 510 and scroll saw on craigslist. scroll saw appears to be green in color and have the large table. the question is, are more than one model of scroll saws or is this the only one shopsmith made?? it is not the jig saw with round black arm. thanks.

Great question. I have the scroll saw (rather, the grey jig saw with the round black arm). Are there other models?

I believe that there are two different models of the Shopsmith Scrollsaw.

I have a 555272 with the large table and stand. This same scrollsaw is available without the stand (555220).

If you buy a scroll saw today it will be either 555715 or 555685. The later is the free standing model while the other mounts on the Shopsmith.

It is my understanding that the major differences are in how the blade is tensioned and how the blade is attached. Of course there is a difference in color. The later is green.

That makes sense. If you want a green Mark V, you have to buy an older model. If you want a green scroll saw, you have to buy the newer model.

Yes, there are a few different equipped scroll saws available. First there is the Mark V mount and the free standing scroll saw. There were different colors depending on when made. I find that all the scroll saws have the same basic mechanical system that allows the latest parts to fit the earliest scroll saws (a Shopsmith feature). Then, there were upgrade kits like the Blade Change System Upgrade Kit for the earlier models. The latest models have the Blade Change System Upgrade Kit installed. The earlier models had a metal cover over the blade part and a round knob for blade tension. I find the upgrade kit is very cheap and recommend installing it on all the earlier scroll saws.

I have had to replace the earlier back table trunnion (breaks very easy) with the much better build one that Shopsmith sells now and is different from the latest one used (even better). The earlier metal cover bracket can also break if much force is applied when lifting the cover. I have installed a hinge on the metal cover with pop-rivits for several scroll saws I repaired.

I have not keep track of Scroll Saw model numbers so do not know when certain changes/upgrades were added. Linda, Shopsmith Customer Service person, has always been able to find the part number and part(s) I needed for repairs.

I found a little more info on the website. Typed in (gray scrool saw manuals) in the search box on the shopsmith website. History of this saw and a little more info. all of these saws the serial number is the build date. this one is 091991.. The reason i needed all this was i bought the one off craigs list the other day. A 510 model with the scroll saw. very clean unit zero rust on the tubes and very little sawdust when i took the cover off th expose the motor. will clean up like new. five C notes had to pay..... The info on this website and forum is really priceless....... Thanks............

I have no info on setting up the scroll saw. Could u tell me
how it's mounted onto the shopsmith. I think it has to be in
the drill mode - what hold's it down ??

It mounts on the left end like most other spts. It is driven by the idler shaft.

Perhaps yours is missing the mounting tubes?

Green????? I thought they were BLUE!
