Am I correct in assuming the proper amount of #10 oil in the crankcase is achieved by filling it up to the filler hole with the Jig Saw sitting in its normal upright operating position? TIA

Any one have manual for the Jig Saw (greenie version, not 10 e/r version). Or know where I can get one? SS does not list it.

I believe that is correct but... I have an older manual and will try to look it up tonight if no one else gets to it. My problem is the part numbers don't match from the older Magna (Greenie) manual to the newer Shopsmith (Grey) one. I need a part but have so far been unable to identify it to part number.

I am also interested in this question, as I would like to start using the jig saw that came with my SS.

I would like to add a question to this (in hopes that I won't be labelled a threadjacker). Since my jigsaw has probably sat for a long time, would it be beneficial (or even possible) to do some sort of "flush" of the oil in the crankcase?

I will also look at my manual, but I think it is from the late 80s/early 90s.

If it IS a Jig Saw rather than a Scroll Saw I do not think there IS much difference.

What makes you think it has ANY oil in it? They are notorious for it leaking out over time(or maybe the shop gremlins are drinking it!:p ). Probably wouldn't hurt! Will not be easy to empty. Resist the temptation to remove the cover. Those gaskets were wishful thinking when NEW!

Resist the temptation??? Isn't that the reason they invented Permatex gasket maker?

I DO hope it IS different(improved) from that shellac based stuff they(permatex) used to sell. That stuff is impossible to remove! IMHO some discriminate filing(smoothing out the mold variations) would improve the ability of any gasket material to seal the oil inside the crankcase. I think I prefer Bill Mayo's make a gasket out of gasket material better(opinion at this point, not tried).

Were you looking for something specific in the manual or looking to obtain a copy? The item number on my manual is 505644, but that returns no results from a search on shopsmith.com.

IMHO one NEEDS a manual for each item one possesses and must maintain.

Check out #877086. This is still a good item number for jig saw info. Don't know if this is helpful but good luck. John McCrossen
