Built this for my girlfriend out of Madrone. Still not sure, if I like how it came out. But, the most important thing, is she just loves it. One of the challenges, there isn't very much room between the window and the patio doors.

WOW! Great looking project! I would like to think I could do something as well as you have done here. But then I don't know what I'd do with it since we don't have a fireplace. We do have a wood stove although after 20 years I'm wondering why. Only used it about ten times since we built the house. Doesn't get cold enough here to keep it from driving us out of the house.

Well, once it saved us when we were without electricity for three days.

Beautiful design and execution. Fits the space well too -- I see what you mean about the design challenge of the nearby window & doors, but the fireplace doesn't look cramped. The proportions fit nicely. Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind comments. I think after this and the mission style telephone table I built, I am going to tone it down a little and try to make some Xmas gifts, boxes, pens, etc. After xmas, go for the coffee table and stackable end tables I promised her.

That is a real nice piece of work Pat. I really like the natural wood look. I probably should had done that with mine but SWMBO wanted it painted so be it.

SUPER JOB!! You don't need to worry about the looks of this one. I know when you're deep into it, it's easy to be self-critical. This one is A-1.

Absolutely no getting around it - That is one BEAUTIFUL fireplace mantel. Anyone would be proud to own it. (and pleased that he made it! - it fits the space perfectly!) Your girlfriend's taste is Right On!!!!

Can not really add anything to what has already been said. I would say that you definitely overcame the challenge. I would be proud to be able to say "I built it" if asked about it. Great job! Nice, Nice, Nice!!!!!!!!

that is a beautiful fireplace. and a wonderful design.

after some of the wine bottle stoppers I saw at the last meeting of the local woodturners club, I wonder how it would look in Corian instead of madrone.
