The Shopsmith Mark I, Fact or Fiction?
Some time ago I posted on my blog my memories of selling a Shopsmith Mark I when I worked for Shopsmith in the Dayton Showroom. I couldn't find a photo so I drew the tool from memory using MS Paint. A day or two later I stumbled across a photo of a Mark I that a buddy converted to a wall-mounted drill press. He worked in the Indy Shopsmith store and purchased the Mark I after it was returned in exchange for a Mark V. This was part of the deal that Shopsmith used in their marketing of the Mark I. Last night I got wild hair after seeing a post here that referenced my posts and still wondered if the Mark I ever really existed, and I went digging in my shop. Well, I found it! If you care about Shopsmith tool history take a look at my blog at the link below for the latest Mark I update, which is a couple posts down from the top. Scott

Thanks Dusty. I'm trying to migrate several of my woodworking blogs to a singe site, but I'm struggling with it a bit. Keep an eye out for www.tool-hunter.com
To me the Mark I is more of a variation on the Mark V than a completely new machine like the Mark II, V and VII. It's a shame that there aren't at least a couple more of them floating around. I'm just happy that I found this, and now I need to find a safe place for it. Perhaps I'll store it with the instructions for the Mark V-mounted Key Cutting Machine. Scott

Thanks Chuck
Chuck,
I appreciate the compliment. I've got a lot of "Shopsmith Sludge" in my head and sometimes I just have to let some of it leak out! Scott

Thanks Tim
Tim,
Thanks, I'm glad you found it interesting. I'll have to show your comment to my bride, who thinks I'm blogging to myself!

Glad to hear it heathicus. Have you had a chance to visit my new version of the site that I mentioned above? It's my first stab at using Google Sites and I was having some problems with the images not showing-up. If you get a chance please take a look at it and report back. If you burrow down or look at the expanded site map I hope you'll see that there's a lot of interesting stuff there. Scott
