Shopsmith Jointer Heads?

Did Shopsmith make a smaller jointer in the past with 2 1/2" head/blades or has the jointer always had a 4" head and blades?

the 2 1/2" jointer cutter mounts directly on the spindle. when used with the shaper/sander fence you have a verticle jointer. takes some time to set up but will produce great results. however it is a very dangerous operation with no guard to cover the exposed portion of the cutter. probably no more dangerous than a shaper cutter but still seems risky to me.
