Came across this oldie and couldn't resist. Everything seems to be working. The name plate has serial no 52152 - can anyone date it correctly? The trunnion for the table needs immediate attention with several hairline cracks which look as though they're about to have a meeting. Any thoughts out there for a replacement part or any ideas for a fix?

Hi Bob,

Glad you found the forum. Nice looking ER. Based on the SN and an interpolation of this post by a very knowledgeable guy that worked at ShopSmith and was moderator of this forum, your unit is probably 1949 /50 vintage.

I would think the guru's here will tell you that if your looking at any kind of accuracy and possibly even safety reasons to replace that trunnion. There are a couple of sources here on the forum that will advise you on parts.

I think you will love the old machine. I got one this spring and got to play with it for a while before I gave it to my brother as b-day gift.

From the pictures it looks to be in pretty good shape. As far as the part you need and some other things you might find you need as you check her out you might want to go to ebay. Ebay has a lot of parts for these machines coming up for sale but of course it is buyers beware.

The serial number according to my book is from 1951. If you join there you can send in your information and have it added to a spread sheet history.
