Making Sawdust...

I mentioned in another thread (under Community) that I was making sawdust recently. I've been making some small items for Christmas "fillers". Just wanted to give a personal endorsement for an item. I made 3 screwdrivers last weekend from the PSI kit, and I really like them. It's a well made kit and makes a nice screwdriver. I should be finishing a couple of their Scratch Awl kits today and will be able to comment on them better later, but I do recommend PSI's screwdriver kit if you're inclined to make a screwdriver. Fitted with a Rosewood handle, it sure is pretty.

OK, here's my results. As I said before, the screwdriver kit is real nice quality. The shaft is reversable, and the tip in each end of the shaft is reversable, so you end up with two phillips and two straight-slotted tips. I just finished three scratch-awls this evening. That kit is nice too, just had one minor "issue" with it. It has a brass tube glued in the wood and is turned on a pen mandrel. After turning, when I went to assemble the awl I discovered the awl shaft was about 0.0015" larger in diameter than the ID of the tubes and had to ream the tubes out slightly. Minor glitch, but I think it turned out well too.

Super nice!!! Once of these days I'll get my rear in gear and get my sharpening stuff going so I can try my hand at turning.. Until then, my 'awl' would have a square handle..

Truely nice work. They look to good to actually use... I mean I know they are functional, but they appear to better as show pieces.

Nice looking screwdriver and awl. I definitely like the way the Rosewood came out. I was given a piece of material laminated with different woods (Not sure what they are) from my son-in-law and after seeing what your finished projects turned out like, I am thinking this material will make for some screwdrivers and then maybe pens. I am showing what the project looks like before. First step will be the band-saw to get the material down to a turning shape. I will post a picture of the finished project when it gets completed.
