I love my 8" Tenryu dado set but I have a problem. It it does not have a chipper that will allow for a 27/32 cut.
Does anybody know where I can find a chipper that would replace one of the Tenryu chippesr to give me that capability?
Nope, Tenryu doesn't make one.
Thanks, folks.

Generally custom, in-between, sizes are made by adding shims between the various chippers to widen out the cut a bit. If your set didn't come with some, there are really nice color coded sets of mylar available almost anywhere, even Shopsmith. My 20 year old Craftsman set came with paper shims that I still use. Just be sure to not put them all in one location to avoid a no-cut area.

Or if you're rich and in a hurry, cut up a dollar bill, use 2 thicknesses somewhere a 3/4" stack. Cheaper than the gas to get fancy ones. Bureau of Engraving and Printing says a dollar is 0.0043 thick. You need 0.0093, so add a thin layer of tissue and you should be good.:D

Hi,

Don't have the set and to be honest when I saw the price I knew I would never have one so I never did look to see what the set contains. If it is anything like the cheaper sets you have chippers of 1/8" and 1/16". Some sets come with a 1/32" chipper. If that is not an option then as was mentioned you need to get some shims. In fact I know on the cheaper sets you need them to do much of any cutting as the there always seems to be difference between what you assemble and what the cut turns out to be.

I did a posting sometime ago with some tables I use, maybe this might help you out. I haven't read it in a while so I hope I explained you need to make a test cut then use the shims to adjust to the right size.

Don't know if this will help you or not but if not maybe someone else will step in with something less generic then me.

I always used brown paper grocery bags. I never measured the thickness, I just added until my test cut was right.

Good use of kraft paper, Tim! -- Another use is for polishing a carving or turnings. (cheaper than very fine sandpaper and about the same a using a handful of chips to burnish a turning.)

Thanks to everyone for their responses.
I'll be trying various methods you've suggested. As plywood varies in thickness, I'm going to keep a lot of grocery bags on hand.:D I'd use the dollar bill method but I spent my last one on the dado set.
