Hi,

I just bought my first Shopsmith -

Does anyone know if any third party lathe duplicator can be used with a 510?

Has anyone build their own duplicator?

I need to turn about 40 spindles to turn.

Thanks!

Bob

I don't have one but I too have pondered your question. This may turn out to be a good read thank you for the question. I have a set of calipers that I use as I have seen on some shows and dvd's. They work, but mine never really come out exactly the same unless I do alot of sanding at the end to get them identical. Turning is alot of fun but it does require alot of paying attention to detail if you are trying to make two or more of something to be the same. I am by no mean a seasoned woodworkers others far move experience will chime in here soon.

Hi Bob,

I have the Shopsmith Lathe Duplicator, and I love it. I used it to turn about 125 8" spindles for a guy who was restoring the gingerbread on his house.

The on line status is reported as: Quantity is Low. It does not say that it is on back order!.

Hmmm, Maybe you type faster than you think. Did you mean to say "I have heard that it is on perpetual back order"!

If I wanted one, I would not ask the folks here on the forum. I'd call customer service.

I own a SS lathe Duplicator and love it, I have used a Vaga and some of its clones over the years .I feel that the SS beats everything that I've seen on the market hands down. having the freedom of movement to get the proper angle alows you a lot of room for adjustment to get the different angle on beads for finer detail,as well as alowing you to attacking wild grain of some woods with out tair-out,you just cant do that on the other lathe dup. on the market, make the SS one of the best buys that I belive you can find anywhere.

Thats just my two cents.

Thanks for the feedback

Watch out on the Ebay ones some of them are the older models and the parts that attach to the rails are no longer made. I went ahead and order on from Shopsmith when they were on sale. Of course they are on back order now my credit card did not clear soon enough so the ones the were concidered quanitity is low were sold before my order made it. I will let you all know how long it takes now. I also order the cup cutter and a 35 degreee cutter.
