i just bought a used powerstand-mounted planer--after talking to cust svc today i learned it is not a Pro planer but the normal thickness planer (cast aluminum/stainless steel, not cast iron, feed table) mounted on a SS stand (1 1/2 not 1 3/4 hp).
i fired it up and other than needing sharpening it seems to run fine, including the feed motor. however, the thickness adjustment wheel is almost impossible to turn--at first i thought it was locked up. i have run the cutter head up and down full travel, but i still need to really "lean into" the adjustment wheel to get it to move. i assume i need to clean the 4 adjustment threaded rods, but before i do so i wanted to get some advice on how to and with what to clean them. i don't want to start spraying them with cleaners and risk doing more harm than good.

i studied the problem more today. when i took the hoods and guards off in order to clean the threaded posts with mineral spirits and lube them with silicone spray, i discovered that one of the posts looks like it is warped/bowed in the middle. that is consistent with the "hard spot" during each revolution of the adjustment handle.

i will wait for the manual i ordered to arrive, and determine whether i'll want to replace the post, or live with it.

I can't add much to the above recommendation. From some what sad experience, I will caution you to be very careful in moving this critter around. It is awkward, heavy and easy to get out of control. I lost control of mine and managed to ding the table and I have a tiny wobble in the depth control. It does not seem to have effected the accuracy of cuts, but it sure could have been bad. I have a roller stand to cart it around now.
