I just scored a older Shopsmith/Magna Jig saw (Green) for $50. (with a strip sander thrown in):D

What has turned out to be the best gasket material to use as a replacement?

Does anyone have a link to an owners manual?

Also it is a model 610 with a SN# of 56225. Any idea what year it was made?

Don't over complicate things. We're talking about sealing a cover on a saw, not rocket science. Any of the liquid gasket sealants will do just fine. If you want to be fancy, buy one that color coordinates with the saw.

You can use the cover as a template. Do not overlook the breather hole(in the gasket).

I used a roll of sheet cork for my jig saws, and it worked fine. I had never done that before, but it only took about five minutes to cut a new gasket with a small, sharp scissors. I used the old gasket for a pattern.

There is a tube in the upper right that you want to be careful not to cover up with gasket material. It leads to the breather hole on the front. This thread has some pictures of the gasket I used and the breather hole.

I have two jig saws, and my newer one (1980) has a leak by the bearing that attaches the saw to the headstock. This leak spewed out out about six feet, so watch for that when you get yours put together.
