Has anyone heard anymore about the new Shopsmith Powerpro head? I've been waiting, hoping to see it available. I put off buying the speed reducer thinking I could wait and get all the advantages of the new Powerpro head.

Think May Day!(at least!) I do NOT
know anything! Just my gut feel based on the past tri-mester.

I know this won't be popular around here, but… my "gut feeling" is that it'll never see the light of day. (Not that I wouldn't mind having one from what information we've been given.) Just a hunch. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.

Im sad to not see it, but if they are using china made drives and motors, I think they are better off to hold off. I would hate to see SS go the way of so many American business.
On the other hand, its going to be darn hard to make it affordable using US made parts.......
I really hate what the US had become......
Ok done ranting

Last I knew, teknatool is still alive! The 'power pro' is a derivative of the teknatool motor. I do not anticipate a quality 'problem' with it. The teknatool power head has been highly touted since its initial appearance, and it has recently been upgraded. As I understand it(see previous post) they have been using a chinese vendor.
I am unclear if teknatool is the owner of the technology or if a New Zealand 'think tank' is.

So.... country of origin may result in variable amounts of reluctance to buy the variable-reluctance motor?;)

That may be very true but country of origin, IMHO, should not be the deciding factor. The decision to buy or not buy should be based on whether or not we are getting "what we are paying for" regardless of "country of origin".
Now I know that some may not find this unbelievable but there is some real trash manufactured here in the good ole USA.
If you want quality, buy quality but be prepared to pay for it. It won't come cheap.

I understand that Teknatool owns the DVR technology and Teknatool also owns the chinese factory with the latest up-to-date machinery that is used to manfacture the DVR based motors.
