Need help from SS Community. Want to sell Mark V 520 (w DC3300). Don't see many sale postings on this forum. Have it posted on CL. Any other idea's where I can post to increase traffic / interest? Thx

Posting items for sale on this site is a definite no-no. It's hosted by Shopsmith, which still markets complete machines and parts. This would have been in the user agreement you agreed to when signing up on the site.

About everything else Shopsmith-related is open game for postings, though.

Besides CL, you can try:
Local newspaper classifieds
Local WoodCraft(or similar) store bulletin board
e-bay
I think that the SSUG allows selling
Local lumber yard bulletin board
Church bulletin board
Work place bulletin board
Grocery store bulletin board

FWIW, I think that this tab513 thread is a good example of how to ask the question without breaking the rules. Will we be hearing more from you, tab513, or is this subject the only one you are interested in? In other words, if you are selling this Mark V 520, do you have other ShopSmiths? Or other woodworking equipment that will keep you coming back here? I really dislike posters (I can knot bring myself to call them "members") that only post to try to sell their stuff.

Sad to say that I am one of those "posters". Would rather be threading about other WW topics, however, selling to pay mortgage (caught up in the "economic downturn"). My late father was indeed a Craftsman ... I believe Artist is even more appropriate. From concept to creation nothing but sketch work. Still have sheets of formica, all his hand tools, machines and wood stockpiles.

I am the opposite of the original poster. I JUST bought a used SS and I am looking for accessories all over the place. I can't find much locally and shipping something like a bandsaw is prohibitive. I dislike buying things off CL from someone I don't know at all and would prefer to buy things with-in the community of people who know how to care for their SS products. I understand not wanting to promote the competition, but having a centrally located market place will increased shopsmith value which in turn creates value for the company. One of the things holding me back from buying NIB accessories is the knowledge that if I need to sell them in the future I will get very little for them and even have trouble finding a buyer.
Additionally, facilitating the sale of an accessory that someone is not using to someone who is using a product increases the chances small accessories will be purchased. For instance, somewhere along the way the drive center for my new to me Mark V was lost. I just purchased a new one from SS. If I bought a bandsaw it is more likely I will purchase bandsaw blades, etc. Currently looking at a Dado set, but the insert was lost somewhere. The used set is prices such that getting the insert from SS makes sense, but I can't afford both rthe set and insert new from SS right now. I can afford to buy some accessories here and there, but not the $500+ pieces. Almost all the accessories seem to be proprietary, so I will end up going to SS for supplies in the end. If I get this machine outfitted and really rolling it is more likely I will upgrade to a MK VII or powerhead in the future. If I get aggravated looking around for accessories I will probably try to turn it and buy something else.

I think another major concern might be that people who had problems with a trade or purchase might call SS to try and have them sort it out or expect some sort of guarantee. If that is the concern I can set-up an exchange myself on a third party site as long as I can include a link and description in my signature here. I'm not promising it would be super professional, but it would probably meet community needs

I work for a big ticket manufacturer and we don't allow people in our user groups, forums, etc. sell for the simple fact that we don't want to be involved in any way, shape, or form if two people have a bad dealing, or more importantly someone gets an abused (or not) product that leads to an injury. You would be surprised how much it costs in fees, experts, etc. to get a frivolous lawsuit dismissed or at least dropped as a party when the plantiff is an insurance company's cost containment department. And that's at a large company, I'm sure Shopsmith couldn't absorb more than two or three.

If you are looking for things in particular, guys on here are pretty good about PMing you if they have it or finding it locally and passing word on to you. SS are pretty gracious hosts for this forum, and its good form to avoid gray areas.

There is another Shopsmith oriented web site/forum that provides for sale of used Shopsmith items. It is not as active as this site but many members here post there as well.

I stumbled upon the yahoo group earlier in the day. Some useful things, but the format is quite dated. The last post in SS trading post was over 2 months ago and the third was nearly a year ago. I think I will go ahead and put together a classifieds based forum for SS in the next few days.

The first post in the wanted add is nearly two years old. Some cheap facebook adds and maybe a couple google ads and the site should pick up a couple people.

I can understand entirely why SS does not want to get involved in sales for legal reasons. I am going to assume they won't mind me putting a link to another site in my signature unless the admin indicates otherwise. Since they published a buyers guide for used SS I don't imagine they would be against a site with SS classifieds.

I have acquired my 3 10ER's, 1 500 and a 510 all from Craigslist with no issues at all. Seems most Shopsmith sellers are an honest bunch. Anything else I needed such as an 520 upgrade, PowerPro upgrade, Crosscut sled, and probably over a hundred other parts, large and small, have been purchased directly from Shopsmith. I have acquired a few parts from E-bay such as a speed changer for my 10ER but only because SS didn't sell them. I scan every Craigslist for over a 500 miles daily using SearchTempest.com, which is in my opinion the best way to buy or sell used Shopsmith units. For parts, E-bay or SS are the best options. I'm not sure there would be enough demand for a new web site dedicated to the buying and selling of used Shopsmith items but you never know.

Very short sighted if this is true. A thriving flea market exposes the product to new people, creates buzz and builds demand across the board. A heavy handed no selling policy is paranoid and stifles the marketplace. In my never to be humble opinion
