For anyone using the Speed Changer the belt sizes are 4L220 and 4L250 or 22" and 25". The original belts for the Speed Changer were 22.5" and 25.5" but those 1/2" size belts (4L225 & 4L255) are no longer found.
I believe I found some
Belts for speed changer- going to order today, could not find a manufacturer that makes both, hoping they work out ok
25.5 V belt
D&D PowerDrive A23.5/4L255 V Belt
Or
Gates 4L255 V Belt 1/2 x 25.5in
22.5 V belt
BROWNING 4L225

If those are auto belts, they won't fit.

Did you look at the specs?

The Gates 4L255 is listed as 25" length and the Browning 4L225 is listed as 21.5" length.

I did read the specs but was hoping the 21.5 “pitch length” was possibly for inside circumference. I’m not a belt expert though I have some.

Both are from MRO
Gates 4L255 4L Section Truflex V-Belt
Cross Section: 4L
Outside Circumference: 25.5 Inch
Material ID: 84002255
But you may have me on the other one. I’m gonna call on Tuesday to find out what the deal is on the number 4L225, it’s representing what?

Why Not???

Once upon a time the 4L was a standard 1/2" belt.

But then also the 225 referenced a 22 1/2 inch belt.

So what gives???

Yeah it doesn’t make a lot of sense but not much does these days. I’ll try to find out the meaning of life in the V-belt world tomorrow.

JPG- per 2 separate sources you are correct.

Part number designation for wedge belts is shown in belt top width followed by the nominal outside length in inches. The numerical prefix indicates the belt top width in one-eighth of an inch. For example, the 5V500 part number indicates a 5/8” top width with a 50.0” outside length.

General cross-sectional dimensions that are used in the US are shown below.

Wedge narrow v belt dimensions sizes

Fractional Horsepower Belt:

FHP light-duty V-belts are often used as single belts on drives of 1 horsepower or less. Its design is for relatively light loads. The most common applications for this V-belt type are domestic washing machines, small fans, refrigerators, and garage equipment. Light V-belts should never be used on any heavy-duty industrial applications, even if they seem to fit the classical or narrow V-belt pulley grooves.

Part number designation for FHP belts is similar to wedge. They are identified with a 2L, 3L, 4L, or 5L prefix. The numerical prefix indicates the belt top width in one-eighth of an inch, followed by the nominal outside length in inches. For example, the 3L300 part number indicates a 3/8” top width with a 30.0” outer length.

General cross-sectional dimensions that are used in the US are shown below.

Checked with manufacturer and the Browning 4L225 is in fact 22.5 inches in circumference. All is right now in the World of V-Belts.

Re the length 'discrepancy', the 4lxxx specifies the outer od. The smaller 'length' likely refers to pitch diameter which is the effective 'running' length.
