micro adjustable collar use?

Just received my SS micro adjustable collar. It was posted on sale at the same time that I was struggling to bore dowel holes. Like they say, timing is everything.
Anyway, do you leave the collar on the main table all the time, or do you install it when its use is anticipated?
Thanks, Gary

Gary, I just received mine also. Unless I find out different, or find a reason why it WOULDN'T work, I plan on leaving mine on the front leg all the time. If I'm not using it, I'll just slide it up to the top of the leg, out of the way. That way I always know where it is... (those damn senior moments you know...)

Hi,
I put it on when I want to use it and take it off when I don't need it like at the end of the day or end of a project, or when it gets in the way.
You don't always use it between the carriage and table, sometimes you want to put it on the bottom of the leg, for that reason alone I like to have it off most of the time, just never sure what way I'll want to use it next.
I think you new owners are really going to love this attachment. I had been messing with the stop rings for this purpose for years and as soon as I saw the adjustable version appear in the catalog I ordered one... as far as I'm concerned this is a "must have".

This is a handy accessory, very well made. I usually put it on when I need it. For dadoing, it makes it possible to fine tune your depth of cut just a few thousandths at a time.
The only time that I have discovered "interference" with the stop collar is in drill press mode. When it is in place, it blocks the table from being adjusted all the way back to the way tubes.

I agree - however I have found that when in the drill press mode, the stop collar will work just as well on the bottom side of the carriage. When used there it is still easy to adjust, but works opposite of when used above the carriage.
Gary - to answer you question - I have two of them, I usually take the one I'm using off and in a drawer. The hard part is to think to put it on before it is needed.

Hi Chuck,
If you use two simultaneously, please tell us how that works for you. Or maybe you use one on each of two Mark V's in the same shop?

No! I just use one at a time. Why do I have two? Because I temporarily lost one - bought a second - then, of course found the first. Later on I have a special drawer for both of them. If one of them ever gets lost again, I'll have a spare.
Maybe this is the first part of a second 510.

I have two of them and use them together. I put one on the main table and the other of the extention table. This way I can have the two tables a the exact same height and if I change the main table height it is easy to get back to having both of them aligned again.
