Hope someone can help me here. I just bought a used ShopSmith MarkV that I haven't picked up yet and need to know the overall dimensions. I especially need the overall height to know if it will fit in the back of my minivan.

The legs come off very easily. I brought both of mine home (separately) in a volvo station wagon. And one had a bandsaw, a jointer, a belt sander, and a planer with it. The tailgate even closed. The minimum height is about 42". You probably don't even have to take the legs off, or at worst just one.

Removing the legs(five screws each) is quite easy and lowers the center of gravity. With the legs on, it is top heavy(not a problem until rapidly cornering!:eek:) Also it is easier to handle and you do not need to worry about bending them(if dropped due to handling 'difficulty').

It also reduces the length slightly.

I did knot include the table, since it's easily removed.

Thanks for all the feed back. I'll probably leave the legs on and use rachet straps to hold it in place while bringing it home. It should fit in the van easily.

Although I have several other wood working tools, this is my first Shopsmith, so I'm sure I'll be back on here with more questions as I clean up this machine and get to know it.

One great reason to take the legs off. I wheeled mine to my chevy blazer, took one set of the wheels off, put the wheeless side on the tailgate, got inside the car through the side door, pulled it mostly in, took the other set off, push it all the way in, packed the wheels, bandsaw, jointer, jigsaw, etc etc etc, and drove it home. I was able to do it all by myself, and really never had to lift more than one end at a time.
