Binding table height adjustment

The table on my 500 binds when I try to raise/lower it. As a result, I'm unable to lift the table out of the carriage to inspect the adjusting mechanism. Any advice on how to deal with this?

Remove the table height crank/handle including the wingnut spacer etc. Push the square rod all the way out the back side. from underneath, push the pinion gears out. One of the pinion gear teeth may be broken causing the gear to jam in the rack(post). Support the table while doing this(the gears are what holds it up)!

I purchased a 510 that was literally frozen. I dissembled as suggested. Then cleaned and lubricated with Johnson's original Paste Wax. Everything works perfectly. If waxed frequently everything works more smoothly. Jim

Pulled out the square rod but the pinion gears will not push out. One will rotate freely for about 1/8 turn, but I can't get it to come out. I've tried lightly tapping it on the inside but no luck. Is there something I'm missing?

Raise to vertical and 'look' from the 'inside' to ascertain what is preventing them from pushing out. Hopefully not a broken tooth!

That did the trick!
The pinion gears are damaged, and there is some damage to one or two grooves on the lift guides. Can damage to the lift guides be repaired with a little filing?

Probably by filing if not too much is damaged on the high places.

Perhaps a picture would help assess the damage.

You don't need to force it. When every thing is right it will just slide in.
