Magna Vs. SS Belt Sander

I have the manual for the SS 6" belt sander and at first glance the Magna Sander I got looks pretty close. Does anyone know any major differences between the Magna and the SS. I am starting to clean it up and check it out and wanted to know if this manual will work close enough. This Magna sander matches the color pattern of my Brownie if that gives you any idea of its age. I also do not see dust collection on this unit.

To my knowledge they are one in the same. Shopsmith used the old casts with the Magna "m" in it for some time before making a new mold with the Shopsmith name. You can buy a dust upgrade for the sander.

The older ones had a small vacuum cleaner outlet tube. A conversion kit is available(it replaces the end casting and has a larger 'port'.

Is the conversion significantly better? I just picked up a belt sander and it has the smaller port and I'm not sure I want to spend $20 to replace a metal part with a plastic one.

I do not know, since I do not have DC, but IIWY, I would try it and then consider/decide!

I bought the conversion for my used (new to me) Belt Sander. The difference was like nite and day. I thought it was well worth the $20.

Hi,
I upgraded my belt sander when they first offered the new port. Dust collection works a lot better now.
Please read the $20 as parts only, the modification need to make it work includes some effort.
My belt sander I got from shopsmith back in the mid 70's and Has the big "M" casting, I have no idea when they started selling the ones with the new casting.
