Got Another!!!

Post by derekdarling »

I have been a musician for a long time, but I am going deaf, and I got the Mark V to develop a new hobby/obsession. I've been trading off musical instruments and other gear, and last weekend, I traded an audio/video production system for a 10ER, including a jigsaw! It was owned by a really good joiner in Vancouver who took really good care of it. This is the type of guy who buys up fallen trees and mills them into planks for his stock. Elm, walnut, oak, maple, chestnut and so on. He even gave me some nice pieces of maple. I'm going to trade him production lessons for woodworking lessons; I think it's a win-win all around.

I'm going to clean it up a bit and use it while I re-furbish the Mark V (needed new bearings, and why not re-paint it at the same time). I tested the motor (off the base, I only have a small car) and it works fine, and I'm going to assemble it this weekend. I'll post some pics of the pieces and once it is together. Maybe a future re-furbish for this as well???

Somedays you're the statue, and some days you're the pigeon. Today, I'm flying!!!

New 10ER

Post by derekdarling »

OK, so I finally had an opportunity on Saturday to put me new (to me) 10ER together. Got it assembled (had a box of assorted parts, finally found the bolt that holds the tailstock on), plugged it in, turned it on and... purrs like a kitten! The previous owner advises getting a new belt 1 size smaller as he put on whatever he had available when the last one broke, so I'll do that this weekend.

I'm so excited!!! One to work with, and one to work on! I'll take pics on the weekend (my next 'me' day; yeah... guys have them too).
