Will this combination work or are there differences that do not allow its use on my 500.
Thanx again guys,

The blade will not be positioned in the same location within the insert. For this you can relocate the carriage to position the blade where you want it and then go make saw dust.
The length of the arbor is the only functionally significant difference in the arbors.

I believe most of the 500 lower saw guards will not work with the 510/520 saw arbors. If the lower saw guard mounts on the quill housing, I am not sure you have enough room for the saw blade. If you are not using a lower 500 saw guard, then no problem.

I agree with Bill Mayo about the lower saw guard for the 500 getting in the way, however, if you get the optional metal expansion "guard spacer" for the lower blade guard which is/was available at Shopsmith for free if you ask (as apposed to Ebay where they have been sold for many $), there is extra room needed. This spacer was developed to allow room for the dado blade set. You can also make a wooden version of the expansion "guard spacer" as described in Power Tool Woodworking For Everyone (figure 3-23 under Table Saw - Joinery).
