This request would be directed to those of you who have had a Shopsmith since the late '70s. I bought my first one in '77 and somewhere along the line I came across a plan for an enclosed unit that hung from the lower way tubes. The end of the unit had two ears (with rounded ends) on the top that spanned the tubes on the outside and extended above the tubes by about two inches. There was another bar (horizontal with rounded ends) that attached to the end ears that allowed it to hang. The unit hung about three or four inches down from the way tubes and extended almost all the way to the floor. It spanned the entire length of the tubes. It had two doors (about two-thirds of the length of the unit) with a cabinet door on the right end with multiple shelves inside. It was an extremely convenient tool storage unit. It even accommodated a jointer in the longer storage area. As I mentioned, I don't remember exactly where I found the plans but thought, now that I've acquired another unit, that I'd ask and perhaps someone who has tenure, or an extensive library of past magazines might remember something like what I've tried to describe. I'd be grateful for any assistance.

I loved Get Smart, and Agent99 caused me to cancel my He-Man-Woman-Haters-Club membership. I've got a short letter and autographed photo from her around here somewhere...

I wonder if all that weight hanging from the tubes does not over stress the Mark 5 casters. I would rather go for "its own casters option". Also with the cabinet hanging the Mark 5 should be difficult to move maneuver.

I am planning on making one but not the hanging type.

Actualy, the casters are quit robust and I don't see that as an issue on any type of relatively smooth surface. Many who have this setup say the weight is an advantage in many circumstances in that it adds stability to the system and reduces vibration and shake (for example when turning out of balance or large stock).
