Too add to my existing SS equipment, I recently acquried a 1985 vintage Mark V Model 500. The "newer" SS included a bandsaw, jointer, jigsaw and 6 x 48 belt sander, all of the same vintage. The SS was upgraded to a 520 and it included all of the removed Model 500 parts.

In one of the boxes of misc. stuff was a saw blade arbor, still in a ziplock bag with a part number. It is longer than my 500 arbor and shorter than the 520 arbor. When I checked the number at the SS website, I found that it is a 510 arbor. Why is the 510 arbor shorter than the 520 arbor? Is the table different between a 510 and a 520?

We also need to know what you are referring to as 500 and 520 arbors.

There are basically two versions of each type of arbor(500/505...20) caused by the difference in table size. There are however different 'types' of arbors for different purposes that vary dimensionally.

I don't have the number here at work, but will post it when I get home. It is a 1-1/4" arbor, but it has a longer offset from the drive spindel collar than the three I have for my Model 500 and a shorter offset than the one on the 520 upgrade machine. I will also measure the offsets when I get home.

The 500 versions are shorter. What is not understood, is what is the 520 arbor you are referring to that is 'longer' than the '510' arbor.

This is especially curious if they are both 1 1/4" arbors.

There are different designs, but all 1 1/4" 505...20 are the same measured from the headstock end to the headstock side of the blade when mounted. They may vary from the otherside of the blade to the far end.

My mistake guys. I did not look closely at the arbors before posting. The blade which was on the SS when I brought it home looked like new, so I did not take it off the arbor to clean. It is an Irwin blade with a 5/8" hole. It is mounted on a #555608 and I have two of the those. The arbor in the bag is a #555130, which is the 1-1/4" arbor for a 510 or 520.
