After putting up with a clicking noise in my headstock for too long, I have torn the headstock down and have found that the idler sheave can move back and forth .025" between the retaining ring and the spring clip, giving me a "clicking" noise as the shaft rotates.

Dave, in customer service has been very helpful, even going out into the shop to inspect an idler shaft. He said that the idler shaft is supposed to sit "solid" on the shaft.

I've ordered new parts, retaining ring idler sheave, and retaining clip, but the idler shaft itself is on back order.

I've even thought of using blue locktite on the idler sheave when I re-assemble. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

I haven't experienced this problem. But, I look forward to hearing how your solution works out.

I have always found the spring clip was very snug againest the idler sheave. I use a lot of different LocTites when assembling a headstock. I would use red (permanent) Loctite for this one as you should not have to disassemble it in the future. I would insure the idler sheave is againest the retaining ring when using LocTite. I use blue Loctite when I believe I may have to disassemble an item.

Thanks Bill. I'm going to wait for my new idler sheave to see if it fits more snugly. I've also ordered a new retaining ring (504179) and a sheave clip (504189).

I'll post the results.

I am curious as to what wore to create the play.(which side of the idler sheave or the retaining clip or ......

I don't have a spare idler sheave but this image shows where it would fit on the new style idler shaft assembly. In this image you can see where the clip and retaining ring are located. Hope this helps.
