M5990 outfeed rubber roller

In the instruction sheets that were sent to me with the new outfeed roller doesn't tell you how to get the roller and pivot arms out. I'm all the way up to this point with the disassembly.On the instruction photo it shows that there's a cutout on the top of the framework of the planer. But mine must be older and doesn't have cutouts. Do I make cutouts and if so how big. I'm all the way up to that point with the disassembly. Hope someone can help..

First, my Pro Planer does have notches above the the infeed and outfeed rollers. The notches appear to be trapezoidal in shape about 1" deep with about 1-5/8" wide closest to the table and 1-1/2" wide further from the table.

I just looked at the instructions (PL-5079 8/85) I received with my roller kit that I used on an old style planer like yours. There were two sets of procedures depending on the planer part number. For the older planers (no notches) they direct you to remove the right end frame. For the newer style they direct you to use the notches. If your instructions do not include the procedure for the older planers, you might contact Shopsmith. I would be hesitant to cut notches in the four end frames without removing them. Hope this helps.
