worked better before I took it apart.

I put a new 'u' spring on goes over the end of the porkchop that connects to the worm gear.

Oiled all parts. took off speed dial, sprayed that, moved pretty good by hand.

put it all back together, ran it up and down. took a few seconds for it to get to max speed.

ran it up and down again, dial working ok, not great.

but now,
stuck in high speed postion, but running at slow speed. sheves open wider, I think thats fast postion.

can not get the speed dial to move, at all. tried by hand, not even close to move dial.


took off speed control handle, dial doesn't budge

almost looks like the worm gear is not centered on the porkchop gear, but don't know for sure and could me imagining that.

should I take off the speed dial and pull the porkchop gear out. Don't know what can of worms I will open.

it turn by hand and by machine, just won't dial down

it seems the problem is not with the SS, but with me.
Bill Mayo called and talked me through a few things and I was confused
as to where the sheaves on the pulley were supposed to be and I was trying to make it move in the wrong direction.

maybe I should be only using hand tools!

If you decide to do that, I have a crosscut saw and a block plane that I'll trade.

But don't give up so soon! Did Bill get you back up and running? If so, what did he have you do that fixed it?

Reading this thread sorta scared me! You are not turning the speed dial with the motor not running (or while turning the drive shaft by hand using a sanding disk)are you?:eek:

Dusty my post does sound kinda confusing.

Bill got me straighten out. Everything is fine, smoother turning the dial then before.

My bandsaw, I just got (used) is all put together and up and running.

I think I must think clearer when the temperature is 100 degrees, this cool down of 89 degrees is no good.

Once it gets hot here, you do best if it stays that way. At least it is that way for me. If I linger in the air conditioning, I wilt when I go outside and that marks the end of a productive day.

Drink lotsa water though.

Glad to hear that you are back in service. What did you do to recover?

All this has me confused, but the only thing I can think of is he was trying to get it to run 'slower' by turning the dial faster! Methinks maybe the 'dial' was indicating 'slow' when the sheaves were set to fast. Maybe not realizing the dial indicator rotated the opposite direction from the crank.
