I decided recently to see if I could actually restore this 10ER. I decided to start with the headstock. I've managed to remove the quill and the pulley/shaft/bearing assembly (not sure this is the correct terminology for this).

Question I hope someone out there can help me with. I've removed the allen wrench set screw from the headstock pulley, but the pulley does not slide off of the shaft/bearing assembly. The pulley is not useable and so MUST be removed and replaced. I've used penetrating oil and 3 in 1 oil, but the pulley has decided to stay put. Does it only come off of the shaft with a puller, or am I just facing a pulley that is rusted on and needs encouragement to be removed? If it is just in need of encouragement, any and all suggestions are welcomed.

BTW, I am not the world's greatest mechanic, or woodworker for that matter. I've kind of fallen into this upon retirement, purchasing a 500 and finding the woodworking fullfilling. The 10ER restoration is a bit of an offshoot of this process.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Good to hear. Remember patience, Grasshopper. It took years for them to get stuck, it's okay to take a few days to get them unstuck.
