I am upgrading my 500 to the 510 table. I purchased the 510 table & trunion on Ebay and the trunion broke during shipping. Specifically the piece of 163 (see links below) that connects to 148 that holds up that attaches the table to the trunion. My question is can it be repaired? I am thinking it might take a bit more than Super Glue to get it on there to stay. Has anyone found an epoxy that will repair it well enough to take the weight & punishment that a main table undergoes? I would very much rather repair the table than return it but it has to be a sure fix long lasting solution.

I think that it is doubtful BUT can you post some pictures. Maybe JB Weld but definitely not super glue.

Is it the trunnion or the tie bar that is broken?

This is the pivot point for the entire main table and I would expect that this part in under considerable stress. Furthermore, if it would broke and shift position while involved in a cut - all sorts of bad things could happen.

Super glue and JB weld will not hold up under any kind of stress or from heavy loads.

I have had really good luck finding someone to weld broken aluminum Shopsmith parts. I find that a person who know how and can do aircraft welding can do an excellant job for this welding. I had broken ears holding the eccentric bushing in the headstock and main table repairs welded successfully. I have been unable to use any of the various aluminum welding rods (exp. Alumiweld) to weld any of the Shopsmith parts successfully.

The Speed Control Bracket and some parts on the scroll saw are made of a pot metal type material and I have been unsuccessful finding anyone who can weld these parts. I would be interested if anyone who has successfully welded this material.

it isn't the aluminium that is broken it is the, I think, Magnesium or something. See the link below to the pictures I took of it. I have some friends that work are machinists for Boeing, I am thinking they might be able to help me.

I doubt that the item can be effectively repaired. That part may be under significant stress when the trunnion lock tightened. See if your seller has another table and post set and get a replacement. Also the aignment of these parts is also critical to maintain accuracy if you tilt the table and as someone alse said a failure of that part when sawing could result in an extremely dangerous failure.

Be sure to let us know if you can get the table trunnion welded. I have welded the 500 trunnions many times as I cut the legs off the cross bar and reweld them to fit in the headrest/base arm SPT holes. I find this gives me a main table to use as an extension table and that can be tilted. I find this is a good use of the 500 main table and trunnion assy when upgrading to a 510 or 520 Shopsmith.

Bill, I found a guy on Ebay a while ago who sells speed controls which he machines himself. The price was really cheap & included shipping. I've attached the link. What he has done is not all that difficult- but i imagine it depends on where the control is damaged. I replaced three on my Model V's.
