Before I beat myself up to much, I want to hear from somebody other then the devil in my mind.

I made a router table and put the router near the edge(there was a reason, but maybe I didn't think though it enough)--when all done and mounted, I was happy--until I started thinking about have it near the edge.

can i not just shift the fence to the other side of the bit for dado's and edge trimming?

It's been awhile since I have done any routing and I have forgotten plenty.

I wouldn't waste my energy whippin yourself. There are as many successful table arrangements as there are tables. My favorite in the (router) under table style system is the Incra arrangement with the LS Positioning system. The hole is centered at one end which I find highly efficient. My over all favorite is my OPR. I love how flexible it is and that my router is above my work where I can see what's happening. Check this Incra link. http://www.incra.com/product_rta_routertables.htm

thanks, makes me feel better, even though I just got in from the workshop after taking the top off and saying "it wasn't a perfect top because of other aspects, but it will make a perfect floor".

Now to make a new top.

Assuming the router cutter is rotating the same direction, moving the fence from the front side to the rear side of the cutter necessitates feeding the workpiece from the opposite direction.

I wanted to buy one of those large offset router table tops, but the shipping cost was a killer. So, I bought the 17" LS positioner and added an extension to my existing router table. Someday, maybe I'll get the really nice Incra top.

Farley, please do not feed the work piece between the fence and the router bit.
You may create a missle...

It might be router 101 okay but that is a course that I have completed more than once and I relearn that lesson each time.

And each time it is a whole lot of "fun" to watch that piece get grabbed out of my hand quicker than a blink. Oh well, another dent in the garage door! :o
