How big is this shaft

The little shaft with the hole for the spring loop that goes into the bushing the is hooked to the control sheave. How is that connected? How long is it suposed to be?

Mine is out or broken. If I don't have to take the sheave off that would be super.

The shaft(button) is pressed into the bearing which in turn is pressed into the sheave. I do not have the dimensions. Have you looked in the motor pan for the button. If you get lucky and find it and the roll pin you might be able to reassemble it. Sounds like the sheaves need some lubrication if the button was pulled out while increasing speed. Personally, I would plan on replacing the sheave.

I find when the retaining loop comes out of the roll pin, the motor floating sheave or the control sheave is sticking/binding on the motor and/or idler shaft. I would recommend removing both the motor floating sheave and the control sheave and clean inside the sleeve tubes.

I recommend the "Zoom Spout Turbine Oil" (Ace Hardware) for lubrication. Send me your address and I will send you a free Stainless Steel roll pin for the button at the end of the Control sheave. Insure the button bearing is still easy to turn with no noise or roughness. Also some pictures of the Speed Control quadrant as this normally becomes damaged when the roll pin or retaining loop is pulled from the control sheave button. I have available any headstock parts that you may need.
