The ss is hard to access inside because the hole is so small.

Is the reason they never made the hole bigger when they were making the mold as the strength of the cast wouldn't be so strong.

I really would like one like Nick has (cut a way)

Not only that, but that hole is a lot bigger than one in the older sand cast headstocks!:D So are the oiling holes in the pulley sleeves!;)

Truth be known, me thinks the hole size was dictated by the size of the logo which was originally only a 'decoration' on the early greenies. It had to be smaller than the 'medallion'.

Farley, I have no idea why its that small, but I share your consternation.

I would bet that the access hole (in the C headstock) is no larger than it is because of some structural integrity criteria for the headstock casting. I would much rather have a small access hole than a weak wall in the headstock casting.

However, if someone needs easier...........NO, I'm not going to say that! Someone just might do it.

The "C" headstock (rocker switch) has a larger acccess hole and Logo cover. You could cut the "B" headstock access hole larger and use the "C" Logo cover if it is a real problem. I have been using a 3 1/4" metal cutting hole saw to cut access holes in the early Greenie headstocks (no access hole) and using the "B" Logo cover for this hole. I used "U" clips (same as the headstock ones) and #10 sheet metal screws at the top and bottom of the "B" Logo cover. I add oiling holes in the control and floating sheaves when adding the access hole.

On my 'B' headstock, there is a small hole covered with a pop-in cap just below the lower auxiliary spindle. I don't see it identified in the drawings for the 'C' headstock. Does anyone know for sure what that hole was intended for?
